Plug-Through Electricity Meter with Inductive Current Sensing
The goal of this project was to develop a low-cost, wireless sensor that measures the AC current, voltage, and real power of wall outlet electrical devices. To reduce sensor cost, size, and power dissipation, a PCB-printed induction coil was used for non-intrusive current measurement.
The inductive current sensing scheme enabled >10x reduction in sensor thickness and 10-100x decrease in sensor power dissipation, compared to conventional plug load sensors that utilize resistive current sensing.
